Such an enjoyable visit for 3 of us to the Crescent Moon Alpaca Ranch In Terrebonne yesterday. Thanks to Karen “our activities director” for organizing the fun trip.
There are about 250 alpacas on the ranch and you can buy some grain to feed the animals which are so cute and friendly.
The alpaca lives for 15 to 20 years normally and is reproductive most of their lives. The females produce one cria (baby alpaca) per year with twins being an oddity. The gestation time for the baby is 11 to 11.5 months and most cria born will weight in at 15 to 20 pounds. The average adult alpaca weighs in between 125 and 175 lbs and stands 32 to 38 inches at the withers.
Alpacas which come in 22 different colors are one of the world`s gentlest and most endearing creatures. A defenseless animal and a herbivore, their strength and their comfort rest within the herd. They are curious and intuitive with unique and individualized personalities. For the herdsman in South America they are a staple of life providing fleece to make clothes and blankets from.
There was also a nice shop with Alpaca made products, including beautiful sweaters and yarn.
A nice day followed by a nice lunch at The One Street Down Cafe.
Thank you to those of you checking in with us to see if we are safe from the fires. In the wee hours we could smell smoke in the house. This morning when walking Aussie I had to wear an N95 mask and I could hardly see 2 feet in front of me. It was hard to breathe even with the mask on so we cut the walk very short. We have been told by our neighbors that this is the worst that they have ever seen.
Due to the fires and the smoke, we had a blood red moon last night. I took several pictures of it but I am having a problem downloading those pictures. This is not my photo but this is just what it looked. I will try to scale down my photos and perhaps I can post them on another blog.
Update: Photos taken near noon today. Deer in our path will not let us pass and photo taken of the butte that is very close by.
Oh my. The alpacas were fun to see. But be safe my friends. Fires are so frightening. Miss you all. Glad Gary is recovering well from knee surgery. Bug hugs

Great to see what you’ve been up to and see the photos. Alpacas are such beautiful and interesting animals. The smoke in your area is certainly concerning. Hope it does not affect Aussie to much!
Stay well and hi to Gary!💕
