The weather on the Oregon Coast is now typical for the Fall. Misty, dark, damp & cool with humidity at 95%.
After another morning beach visit, yesterday was a good day to head into town to the Historic Bayfront area. The wharfs here with the fishing fleet tied up and the fish processing plants give you the feel of a real working harbor
One of the big attractions along the Historic Bayfront is the constant presence of big, wet barking residents. Sea lions populate many docks and landings here, and it is fascinating to watch them interact.
So fascinating that even Aussie was intrigued by their barking.
Nice to see it was business as usual at the Bayfront with everything open, however we decided not to enter this place below where we parked.
Yaquina Bay Bridge seen from the waterfront
Yaquina Bay bridge is a beautiful art deco bridge linking South Beach to Newport with great views of the Yaquina Bay. Work on the Yaquina Bay Bridge began on August 1, 1934. The bridge opened on September 6, 1936, at a cost of $1,301,016 ($23,970,000 in today’s dollars). A total of 220 people worked to pour 30,000 cubic yards of concrete and fabricate 3,100 tons of steel. The Yaquina Bay Bridge was placed on the National Register of Historic Places August 5, 2005. Tomorrow we will be crossing this bridge in our motor coach.
Cute little waterfront in town however strange to see a Ripleys Believe It or Not in the middle of a fishing area.
In the morning we will leave this area and head to Coos Bay.
Wonderful posting! So glad that the notification worked. Great descriptions. We saw many a sea lion in Galapagos. Wonder if they are related! Good to know where you are – & that the smoke & fires have eased at least in this area. We arrived in Stowe this aft. Easy short flight. Now re-acquainintin ourselves with the house & re-organizing the cupboards!
