Stockholm the capital of Sweden is a beautiful city surrounded by a lot of water. Stockholm encompasses 14 islands and more than 50 bridges. The sightseeing boats shuttle people between the islands.
Stockholm is the 9th most densely populated European city.
We enjoyed walking in Gamla Stan (Old Town) past the Royal Palace and Gary enjoyed shopping at Hestra. Hestra is a Swedish company that makes great gloves and we both use their gloves when the temperature drops back home. This shop had an assortment of hundreds of gloves.
Today we walked from Slussen, through Gamla Stan to Djurgarden along the waterfront towards the Vasa Museum and the ABBA Museum.
Vasa is a unique and well preserved warship from 1628. It had been built on the orders of King of Sweden as part of the military expansion. After 333 years at the bottom of the Stockholm Bay the ship was rediscovered and salvaged. The Vasa Museum is one of the most popular Museums in Scandanavia.
After the visit to Vasa we walked over to The ABBA Museum.
ABBA is a popular Swedish group formed in Stockholm in 1972. The name of the group is an acronym of the first letters of the members first names. Estimate of their record sales range from 140 million to 500 million records. They are the first group from a non English speaking country to have consistent success in the charts of English speaking countries.
Stay tuned for more Stockholm.
