We went over to Brengle Terrace Park in Vista to check out the 4 pickleball courts. What a nice park with a baseball field, basketball, tennis courts, a playground and most unique is the disc golf throughout the park.
Established at the park in 2012, the course is very hilly & moderately wooded with 18 holes spread all around the entire park. There are hilly to flat areas, from extremely wooded to flat open areas. The course gives a feeling of playing in multiple environments. There is a bonus hole between 5 and 6. The course plays longer then actual distance due to many uphill shots. Roll away putts are common here.
Today there were several people within the park tossing their discs. We caught up with this young fellow who said he prefers to play the game alone as he tossed his disc into the woods.
To explain Disc Golf, it is a flying disc sport in which players throw a disc at a target; it is played using rules similar to golf. It is usually played on a course with 9 or 18 holes.
Players complete a hole by throwing a disc from a tee area toward a target, throwing again from where the previous throw landed, until the target is reached. Usually, the number of throws a player uses to reach each target is tallied, and players seek to complete each hole in the lowest number of total throws.
The game is played in about 40 countries and as of 2019, there were 53,366 active members of the Disc Golf Association worldwide.
Also, along the nearly two-mile loop of the Brengle park, guests can drive through the park highlighting the holiday displays including: Ahoy to the World, Steal Home for the Holidays, ‘Twas the Moonlight Before Christmas, Winter Solstice, Merry and Flight, and Santa’s Workshop.
Here is another interesting display at the park near the basketball courts. It looked like someone either stopped by on their way to the dump or they just like to decorate their car with trash. Is this what they mean by trash talking on the courts? Notice the basketball in the air near the net.
Our second stay in Carlsbad this year is coming to an end. Despite the “stay at home order” due to covid, we have had beautiful weather and its great to be outdoors here. We have the same great view from our balcony facing the Aviara golf course (a real golf course) like the last time and every morning we see the ducks swimming in the pond.
Yesterday at the Poinsettia Pickleball courts was the match of the year. Gary and his partner Kai came so close to defeating an undefeated couple by the score of 15-17. Kai who is 36 did every acrobatic move he could to get his shots including 4 different falls on the court.
We look forward to returning to Carlsbad again next Fall.
Never tired of seeing Birds of Paradise Never tired of seeing the Lagoon
Glad you are both well and enjoyed your time in Carlsbad!
