The last day in McCall we took a drive around Payette Lake and stopped at a beach.
The next morning we left early to head back to Oregon. Aussie slept soundly on the bus with her new toy.
We left the area making our way down a windy road and all was going well until we smelled burning rubber. Gary quickly got out of the coach and I grabbed the fire extinguisher. There was a lot of smoke coming from under the bus and it smelled terrible.
This was not us but we had visions that it would be us.
We waited a while until the smoke stopped and then Gary figured out what happened. Aussie tends to plop herself down on the drivers seat when we are out of the coach and apparently had flipped a switch for the retarder. The bus had no transmission going downhill and since Gary had to use his brake going down the steep hill the bus started to smoke.
This will be the last time Aussie gets to sit in the drivers seat. When we were in Montana several days ago she sat in the drivers seat and kept beeping the horn when we went out of the bus. Good thing that our neighbors thought it was funny.
Not only did the smokey bus put us behind in our travels, we kept getting behind road painting trucks on the way home which slowed us down quite a bit.
We finally stopped for lunch in the coach and this was the view from the window.
And a lonely house up the hill on the other side of the road .
Its good to be back in Oregon except that it is 102 degrees here today. At least we will be back to normal evening skies. Where we stayed in Montana it was light out until after 10pm.
It was great to see a few old friends along the way and meet several new people, of course keeping an acceptable social distance and staying outside.
Next scheduled travel will be in 2 weeks when we hope to head to San Francisco to see the kids for Jacobs birthday and then back in time for Garys scheduled knee surgery.
