Smith Rock State Park is an American state park located in central Oregon‘s High Desert near the communities of Redmond and Terrebonne. Its sheer cliffs of tuff and basalt are ideal for rock climbing of all difficulty levels. The majesty of Smith Rock State Park is unique, even for the high desert of Oregon. The park covers over 650 acres and hovers around 3000 feet in elevation.
Today Karen and I had did a nice 7 mile hike in Smith Park with Aussie. With the weather so nice today, (70’s and sunny) there were many rock climbers out enjoying the day as seen in the pictures below.
Known as a “bona fide climbing town” according to National Geographic Adventure magazine, Smith Rock State Park features some of the most cutting edge climbing routes in the world. Only 30 minutes north of Bend, Oregon, Smith Rock State Park is widely considered the birthplace of modern American sport climbing with literally thousands of established routes to choose from.
And even if rock climbing is not your thing, the views are beautiful for the hikers.
Views heading both out and back from today’s hike.
A very nice day. Thanks Karen for today’s good plan.
